Football frenzy has reached new heights in Kerala, with the state government declaring a holiday for schools ahead of the FIFA World Cup 2026 Final to allow students and teachers to enjoy the late-night title clash.

The Kerala General Education Department announced that all schools under its jurisdiction will remain closed on Monday, following overwhelming public demand and widespread excitement surrounding the World Cup final. The decision reflects Kerala's deep-rooted football culture, where fans passionately support global football giants and celebrate the sport like a festival

The holiday comes as the World Cup final is scheduled to kick off after midnight in India, raising concerns that students would struggle to attend school after staying up to watch one of the biggest sporting events in the world. Reports also indicate that colleges have been included in the holiday announcement. 

Kerala is widely regarded as India's football capital, with towns and villages adorned with giant team cut-outs, flags and public screenings during every FIFA World Cup. The latest decision has once again highlighted the state's unmatched passion for the beautiful game
