Mumbai Indians captain Hardik Pandya reportedly explored the possibility of returning to his former franchise, Gujarat Titans, but the move failed to materialise after a key condition over captaincy became a sticking point.
According to The Indian Express, Pandya held discussions with Gujarat Titans regarding a potential return. However, the franchise is learnt to have rejected the proposal after Pandya made his comeback conditional on being reinstated as captain.
Pandya had led Gujarat Titans during their first two IPL seasons, guiding the team to the title in 2022 and the runners-up spot in 2023. His move to Mumbai Indians ahead of the 2024 season marked a major change in his IPL career.
The latest development highlights the complex dynamics surrounding leadership and franchise strategy in the IPL. Gujarat Titans, meanwhile, appear unwilling to alter their leadership structure simply to facilitate Pandya’s return.
For now, Pandya remains associated with Mumbai Indians, while the reported failed negotiations add another major twist to his already eventful IPL journey.
