Senior BJP leader Subramanian Swamy has triggered a fresh political controversy by questioning the delay in inviting the Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam (TVK) leadership to form the government in Tamil Nadu. In a sharp statement, he claimed it is “shocking” that despite TVK emerging as the single largest party in the State Assembly elections, the constitutional process has not yet moved forward in their favour.
Swamy further alleged that democratic norms are being overlooked and demanded immediate action from the Tamil Nadu Governor. He insisted that the Governor must formally invite TVK leader Vijay to form the government and prove majority on the floor of the Assembly without further delay.
Escalating his remarks, Swamy argued that the spirit of democracy requires the party with the highest mandate—according to his claim—to be given the first opportunity to form the ministry. He also said the Governor should ensure a transparent floor test to uphold constitutional propriety and public trust.
The statement has already triggered political ripples across Tamil Nadu, with sharp reactions expected from rival parties and constitutional experts. Meanwhile, no official confirmation has been issued regarding the Governor’s next course of action in the post-election scenario
. If implemented as suggested by Swamy, the move could significantly alter the political landscape in the state and intensify the already heated debate over government formation procedures.
