Playback singer Shilpa Rao has opened up about the unexpected challenges she faced while recording the hit romantic track “Chaleya” from Jawan, calling the song “not easy at all” despite its smooth, breezy vibe on screen.
The soulful number, picturised on Shah Rukh Khan and Nayanthara, became an instant chartbuster upon release, but Rao revealed that achieving its effortless feel required intense vocal control and emotional precision. “People think it’s a soft romantic song, but the technicalities behind it are quite demanding,” she said in a recent interaction.
Composed by Anirudh Ravichander, “Chaleya” blends contemporary beats with classic romance, placing unique demands on vocal modulation. Rao noted that maintaining subtle expressions while staying perfectly in pitch was one of the toughest aspects of the recording process.
She further explained that the song required multiple takes to capture the exact mood envisioned by the composer and filmmakers. “There’s a fine balance between underplaying and still making an impact. That’s where the real challenge lies,” she added. “
Chaleya” continues to enjoy massive streaming numbers and remains one of the standout tracks from the film’s album, with fans praising its melody and chemistry on screen. Rao’s candid revelation offers a behind-the-scenes glimpse into the effort that goes into creating what appears to be a simple romantic hit.
With Shah Rukh Khan’s enduring screen presence and Anirudh’s fresh musical style, the track has cemented its place as a modern Bollywood favorite—proving that sometimes, the easiest songs to listen to are the hardest to create.
