Hollywood: Divorce may have ended Gwyneth Paltrow and Coldplay frontman Chris Martin’s marriage, but it did not tear their family apart. More than a decade after their 2014 separation, Paltrow has opened up again about the unusual approach the former couple took to protect their children and remain a family.
Paltrow and Martin deliberately chose what became known as “conscious uncoupling”—ending their romantic relationship while continuing to work together as parents. The couple, who divorced in 2016, share two children, Apple and Moses
According to Paltrow, they were determined not to let the bitterness often associated with divorce damage their children. They went through therapy together and committed to keeping their family bond intact, including sharing important family occasions and maintaining traditions.
The actress has previously said that the pair made a conscious effort to put their children first, even when maintaining a close relationship was difficult. She has described Martin as family and emphasized that their relationship evolved from marriage into friendship and co-parenting.
Their story has since become one of Hollywood’s most talked-about examples of post-divorce co-parenting. Paltrow’s latest comments underline the central idea behind their decision: the marriage could end, but the family did not have to.
