Bollywood actor Kriti Sanon has revealed that she chose to freeze her eggs several years ago to free herself from the social and age-related pressure surrounding marriage and motherhood. Known for successful films including Mimi, Crew, and Bareilly Ki Barfi, Sanon said the decision has allowed her to live life on her own terms without feeling rushed by a biological timeline.
Speaking during an interview with Humans of Bombay founder Karishma Mehta, Sanon said she did not want to feel compelled to marry or have children simply because of societal expectations or age. She stressed that major life decisions such as marriage and parenthood should come from personal choice rather than external pressure.
Sanon also revealed that she underwent the egg-freezing procedure while preparing for Mimi, the film that earned her widespread acclaim and a National Award. Since she had to gain around 15 kilograms for the role and had a break from shooting, she felt it was the right time to undergo the process after receiving advice that it could be one of the best long-term decisions for women planning their future.
The actress admitted that the procedure was physically and emotionally demanding. She explained that hormone treatments caused significant mood swings, making the experience challenging. Despite the difficulties, she said she has no regrets and believes the process has given her peace of mind.
Sanon described egg freezing as a "safety net" that offers her the freedom to focus on her career and personal life without constantly worrying about time. While she may never need to use the frozen eggs, she said having the option available has removed the feeling of a ticking biological clock and given her greater confidence about the future.
