India Restricts Chinese CCTV Cameras from April 1 Over Security Concerns Description: India enforces new rules

India enforces new rules restricting Chinese CCTV brands citing cybersecurity and national security risks from April 1, 2026.

India News

New Delhi, April 1: India has imposed fresh restrictions on Chinese CCTV camera manufacturers from April 1, enforcing stricter security and certification norms. The move is part of the government’s broader effort to safeguard national security and strengthen cyber resilience. Under new guidelines, all surveillance equipment must receive approval under India’s quality and security testing system. Several Chinese brands, including Hikvision and Dahua Technology, are unlikely to qualify due to compliance concerns. Officials cite risks related to data security and potential foreign access to sensitive surveillance networks as a key reason behind the decision. The policy also aims to reduce reliance on imports and encourage domestic manufacturing under the “Make in India” initiative. While existing installations will not be immediately affected, only certified products will be allowed for sale going forward.
