Indian scientist Kuljeet Kaur Marhas has achieved a historic milestone by becoming the first Indian woman to be elected Fellow of The Meteoritical Society, a globally respected organisation in planetary science and meteorite research.
The honour recognises her outstanding contribution to the study of meteorites, planetary materials, and the early formation of the Solar System. Her research has played a key role in understanding ancient space materials and their chemical signatures.
Currently associated with the Physical Research Laboratory (PRL), Ahmedabad, Marhas has worked on samples linked to international space missions and advanced laboratory studies involving extraterrestrial materials. Her achievement is being seen as a proud moment for Indian science and women researchers in the field of space exploration.
The Meteoritical Society fellowship is considered one of the highest recognitions in planetary science, awarded only to scientists with exceptional contributions to the field. Kuljeet Kaur Marhas is now among a select group of Indian researchers to receive the honour.
