Chennai: The Tamil Nadu Congress Committee (TNCC) on Friday staged a massive protest in Chennai condemning the BJP-led Central Government and the Governor over the ongoing political developments following the 2026 Tamil Nadu Assembly elections.

The protest was organised by the Chennai District Congress Committees near Dharapur Tower on Anna Salai under the leadership of TNCC President K. Selvaperunthagai. Congress leaders accused the Centre of acting against the spirit of the Indian Constitution to prevent the victorious Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam (TVK) from forming the government despite emerging as the single largest party in the state.

Senior Congress leader and AICC in-charge Girish Chodankar, former TNCC President K. V. Thangkabalu, and AICC in-charge for Meghalaya, Mizoram and Arunachal Pradesh A. Chella Kumar participated in the demonstration along with several senior party functionaries.

Congress leaders strongly criticised the Governor, alleging that he was functioning as a “puppet” of the BJP-led Centre and attempting to create a constitutional crisis in Tamil Nadu. Protesters raised slogans defending democracy and demanding that the mandate of the people be respected

Several sitting and former MPs, MLAs, Chennai district Congress presidents, state office bearers, corporation councillors, frontal organisation leaders, and hundreds of Congress workers took part in the agitation, turning Anna Salai into a politically charged protest venue.
