Hyderabad, October 2: The government is likely to announce good news for senior citizens in Telangana soon. Minister Ponnam Prabhakar announced that the issue of providing free bus passes to the elderly is under consideration. This has raised hopes for free RTC travel among elderly men aged 60 and above.
Minister Ponnam Prabhakar and Minister Adluri Lakshman participated in an event held at Ravindra Bharathi in Hyderabad to mark the International Day of Older Persons. Speaking on this occasion, Ponnam Prabhakar stated that the government is considering making free bus passes available to senior citizens as soon as possible.
Currently, free bus travel facilities are in place for women in Telangana. If free bus passes for senior citizens are introduced in a similar manner, elderly men will also have the opportunity to travel for free on RTC buses.
However, the eligibility age for this scheme, the pass issuance procedure, travel limits, and other regulations still need to be finalized. Clarity on when this facility will come into effect and who will be eligible will only be available after the government officially announces the guidelines.
If free bus passes for senior citizens are made available, it could reduce travel expenses for thousands of elderly people across the state. This decision is expected to benefit elderly individuals who frequently travel for medical, family needs, and other purposes.
