The Kazipet Rail Manufacturing Unit of Indian Railways is nearing completion and will soon begin manufacturing modern intercity trains, Union Railway Minister said after reviewing the project along with Union Minister of State for Railways and senior officials. Officials said the versatile rolling stock manufacturing unit will produce around 200 intercity trains over the next five years.
These trains are designed for short-distance travel of nearly 300 km with multiple stoppages, improving connectivity between towns and nearby cities for students, employees, and daily commuters. The trains will offer an affordable and efficient intercity travel option and are expected to shift a significant portion of local passenger traffic from roads to railways. The upcoming 20-coach trains will feature automatic door-closing systems, superior ventilation, modern jerk-free couplers, advanced bogies, and two toilets in every coach. The trains are designed to operate at speeds of up to 130 kmph. The trains will also include regenerative braking technology, enabling electricity generated during braking to be fed back into the grid, making the services more energy-efficient and environmentally friendly with reduced carbon emissions. Railway officials stated that the introduction of these modern intercity trains will strengthen green and clean transport infrastructure across the country.
