Bengaluru, May 31:
Congress leader D. K. Shivakumar has been elected as the new leader of the Congress Legislature Party (CLP), clearing the way for him to become the next Chief Minister of Karnataka.
The decision was taken at a meeting of Congress legislators in Bengaluru, where party members extended unanimous support to Shivakumar’s leadership. His election follows the resignation of outgoing Chief Minister Siddaramaiah as part of the party’s leadership transition in the state.
Following the CLP meeting, Shivakumar is expected to stake claim to form the government and will soon be invited by the Governor to take oath as Chief Minister. Preparations are underway for the swearing-in ceremony, while consultations continue on the composition of the new Cabinet.
Shivakumar, a senior Congress strategist and longtime party organiser, said he was grateful for the trust placed in him by the party leadership and legislators. He pledged to work for the development of Karnataka and strengthen the Congress government in the state.
The leadership change marks a significant moment in Karnataka politics, with the Congress aiming to maintain stability and focus on governance under its new chief minister.
