New Delhi: A shocking road accident rocked central Delhi late Sunday night after an out-of-control car smashed through a road divider and slammed into an SUV carrying two MLAs near the ITO traffic signal.
Delhi’s Kirari MLA Anil Jha and Karnataka BJP MLA Abhay Patil were among six people injured in the violent collision. All six reportedly suffered minor injuries and were rushed to Lok Nayak Hospital, where their condition was stated to be stable.
According to police, the crash occurred around 9:30 pm near the PWD headquarters. A Swift car travelling from Laxmi Nagar towards ITO hit the divider, breached the roadside railing and crossed onto the opposite carriageway before smashing into the Innova carrying the two legislators.
The impact was severe, leaving both vehicles badly damaged. Emergency teams and police rushed to the spot, while traffic was disrupted at the busy ITO intersection.
Police are investigating what caused the car to lose control. Officials are also examining reports that a CNG cylinder burst before the crash and are probing the exact sequence of events.
