NECC Announces Egg Price Cut as Rates Fall Across India

Oversupply in domestic markets leads to decline in egg prices, bringing relief to consumers but concerns for poultry farmers.

Egg prices across India have declined after the National Egg Coordination Committee (NECC) announced a reduction in benchmark rates due to surplus supply in the domestic market. The latest wholesale price of eggs has dropped in several production centres, affecting the poultry industry but offering some relief to consumers. According to industry sources, the fall in prices is mainly linked to disruptions in egg exports to West Asian countries. Due to the ongoing geopolitical tensions in the region, shipments from India have slowed down, resulting in a higher supply of eggs in local markets. Major poultry production hubs such as Namakkal, which is considered one of the largest egg-producing centres in the country, have reported noticeable price drops in recent days. Poultry farmers say the sudden decline in prices has increased financial pressure as production costs remain high. While consumers may benefit from lower retail prices, industry experts warn that continued price drops could affect poultry farmers’ profitability. The NECC said it is closely monitoring market conditions and may revise rates again depending on demand and export recovery. Market analysts believe egg prices may stabilize once export channels improve and domestic demand increases in the coming weeks.
