New Delhi: The names of high-profile voters have once again become a topic of discussion in the special comprehensive revision (SIR) process of voter lists in Delhi. Election officials have issued notices to several prominent individuals, including senior BJP leader L.K. Advani, former Vice President Jagdeep Dhankhar, External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar, Delhi Chief Minister Rekha Gupta, and former Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal.
Due to discrepancies with the old SIR voter list from 2002, several of these individuals were flagged for field verification. Subsequently, booth-level officials visited their residences and examined details based on documents suggested by the Election Commission.
Notices were issued after names were found missing in the draft voter list released on August 31. While the draft list in Delhi contains over 9.7 million voters, officials reported that notices were sent to approximately 3.31 million individuals for whom discrepancies were identified.
However, the office of the Chief Electoral Officer of Delhi clarified that receiving a notice does not mean that the voter's name has been removed. It stated that after providing each voter with an opportunity to present their case, orders with reasons would need to be issued.
The process of including the names of prominent voters who have completed field verification in the final list is ongoing. As political and public interest in the SIR in Delhi is increasing, all eyes are now on the final voter list set to be released on November 4.
