Veteran South Indian actress Simran has sparked a major debate across the Indian film industry after making strong allegations about the working culture in Bollywood. The senior actress, who ruled South cinema for over a decade with blockbuster films, has accused Bollywood makers of showing a “disrespectful and condescending attitude” towards South Indian artists.

In a recent interview with a leading magazine, Simran expressed deep disappointment over how she was treated despite her established fame in the South. She claimed that Bollywood filmmakers often fail to acknowledge the popularity and legacy of South Indian stars, treating them as if they are newcomers to the industry. According to her, this mindset creates a professional environment lacking basic respect.

Simran further alleged that issues go beyond attitude, pointing out frequent disputes over production arrangements. She said negotiations around hotel accommodations, flight bookings, and even crew expenses were often reduced to “unnecessary bargaining battles,” which she found unprofessional and demoralizing. These experiences, she suggested, played a key role in her distancing herself from Hindi cinema

. The actress also revealed that poor communication and a superiority complex among some industry circles made it difficult for her to continue working in Bollywood. Despite receiving offers, she chose to step away, stating that self-respect mattered more than opportunities that came with a lack of dignity.

Her remarks have now gone viral on social media, reigniting the long-standing debate over Bollywood vs South cinema working cultures. While some support her claims, others argue the industry dynamics have changed over time. Nonetheless, Simran’s statements have once again put the spotlight on alleged regional bias within the Indian film industry.
