India has successfully completed the export of 10 high-powered locomotives to Mozambique, marking a significant milestone under the “Make in India, Make for the World” initiative. The final batch of two 3,300 HP diesel locomotives, manufactured at Banaras Locomotive Works (BLW), has reached the port city of Maputo, completing the contract.
The project highlights India’s growing footprint in the global railway manufacturing sector. Built with advanced engineering and designed for high efficiency, the locomotives are tailored to meet Mozambique’s operational requirements, reinforcing India’s capability to deliver customized rail solutions to international markets.
Officials from Indian Railways noted that the successful delivery underscores the country’s commitment to strengthening economic and infrastructural partnerships with African nations. The export is expected to enhance freight capacity and operational reliability in Mozambique’s rail network.
This achievement also aligns with India’s broader strategy of boosting exports of high-value engineering goods while positioning itself as a trusted partner in infrastructure development across developing economies. The collaboration further deepens bilateral ties between India and Mozambique.
With this milestone, India continues to expand its presence in global rail markets, signaling a strong push towards becoming a leading exporter of railway technology and equipment worldwide.
