New Delhi | July 7, 2026 The southwest monsoon is expected to cover the entire country within the next two to three days, according to the India Meteorological Department (IMD). Weather conditions remain favourable for the rain-bearing system to advance into the remaining parts of northwest India, completing its nationwide spread.
The IMD has forecast widespread rainfall across several regions, with heavy to very heavy showers likely in parts of northern, western, central and southern India over the coming days. Thunderstorms, lightning and strong winds may accompany the rainfall in some areas.
The advancing monsoon is expected to provide a major boost to kharif crop sowing and improve water availability in many regions. However, continuous heavy rain could also increase the risk of urban flooding, waterlogging and landslides in vulnerable areas.
State authorities have been advised to remain prepared for possible weather-related disruptions, while residents in low-lying and flood-prone locations are urged to follow official advisories and avoid unnecessary travel during intense rainfall.
The IMD will continue to monitor the monsoon's progress and issue region-specific forecasts and warnings as weather conditions evolve.
