New Delhi | August 13, 2026 Congress leader and Lok Sabha Opposition Leader Rahul Gandhi launched a sharp political attack on Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Union Home Minister Amit Shah, claiming that the Opposition’s campaign is putting the BJP leadership under pressure.
Speaking at the Rachnatmak Congress National Convention in New Delhi, Gandhi declared, “Our job is very simple and we can drive them crazy,” before taking a direct swipe at the Prime Minister. He claimed that “Narendra Modi does not sleep at night”, adding that there were “different reasons” behind it.
Gandhi also targeted Amit Shah, sarcastically questioning the BJP’s earlier portrayal of him as “Chanakya” and asking where the Home Minister had disappeared. He linked the remarks to what he described as the government increasingly feeling the pressure of people demanding the right to express themselves.
The Congress leader accused the BJP of attempting to impose a political “order” on the country while restricting dissent and public expression. Gandhi said the Congress would instead work to make India “express itself” and challenge what he described as the BJP’s political dominance.
The explosive remarks come amid a fierce confrontation between the Opposition and the government, with Parliament’s functioning becoming a major political flashpoint. Gandhi’s latest attack is certain to intensify the already heated battle between the Congress-led Opposition and the Modi government.
