A 20-year-old engineering student was found dead on the campus of the International Institute of Information Technology (IIIT) Hyderabad, triggering a police investigation into a suspected suicide.
The deceased, identified as Pullepu Abhiroop, was a third-year BTech student enrolled in the Computer Science and Geospatial Technology programme. Police said he was found with severe injuries after an alleged fall from a campus building.
Authorities were alerted immediately, and the student was taken for medical examination, where he was declared dead.
Investigators believe the case appears to be a suspected suicide based on preliminary findings. However, officials said all angles are being examined, and the exact circumstances surrounding the death will be established after the investigation is completed.
Police have registered a case and shifted the body for post-mortem examination. They are also speaking to classmates, friends and institute officials as part of the inquiry.
The incident has left the campus community in shock, with students expressing grief over the loss of their classmate. The institute is expected to extend support to students and cooperate with the ongoing investigation.
Officials have urged the public to avoid speculation until the investigation is complete.
