Hyderabad: Congress MLC Vijayashanti launched a sharp attack on the Telangana government in the Legislative Council, accusing it of completely neglecting the assurances made to statehood activists. Expressing strong dissatisfaction, Vijayashanti questioned, “What happened to the promises we made to the ఉద్యమకారులు (activists)?” She pointed out that even after more than two years in power, the government has failed to implement a single major commitment.
The MLC recalled that during the Telangana movement, leaders had promised that:
One member from each family of martyrs would be given a government job A monthly honor pension of ₹25,000 would be provided to the families of martyrs
Official recognition and ID cards would be issued to activists by June 2
However, she alleged that none of these promises have been fulfilled so far.
Demanding immediate action, Vijayashanti urged the government to honor its commitments without further delay. “The promises made to Telangana activists must be implemented at once. Continued neglect is unacceptable,” she asserted. The remarks have intensified political pressure on the ruling dispensation, with opposition leaders likely to raise the issue more aggressively in the coming days. “Activists who sacrificed everything for Telangana are now questioning the government. They are asking what happened to the assurances made to them,” Vijayashanti said, highlighting growing frustration among the activist s
. She further criticized the delay in issuing official Recoiganasion (identity) cards, stating that even symbolic recognition has been denied.
“The government had assured recognition, but even that basic commitment remains unfulfilled,” she added.
