Chennai: In a dramatic political development, the Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam (TVK)-led government has reportedly secured a strong victory in the Tamil Nadu Assembly trust vote, crossing the majority mark with the support of 144 MLAs in the 234-member House.
The confidence vote turned into a major political upheaval after a breakaway faction within the All India Anna Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (AIADMK) extended support to the ruling side. This internal split significantly weakened the opposition’s numbers and strengthened the TVK-led alliance.
Sources indicate that several opposition and allied parties, including Congress and Left parties, backed the government citing political stability and governance continuity. The support from the AIADMK rebel group proved decisive in pushing the ruling side well beyond the required majority mark.
The development marks one of the most significant realignments in recent Tamil Nadu politics, signaling deep cracks within AIADMK and a shifting power balance in the state assembly.
Political analysts say the outcome could reshape future electoral equations in Tamil Nadu, with both AIADMK and opposition blocs facing major internal challenges after the unexpected trust vote result.
