Beijing, May 15, 2026:
U.S. President Donald Trump and Chinese President Xi Jinping held a second day of high-level talks in Beijing on Thursday, signaling a renewed push to stabilize relations between the world’s two largest economies.
Speaking after the meeting, President Trump said the discussions produced “fantastic trade deals” that would benefit both the United States and China. He praised Xi as “a great man” for whom he has “great respect,” adding that the two leaders had resolved several longstanding issues that many believed were too difficult to settle.
Trade was a central focus of the summit, with both sides seeking to reduce tensions that have weighed on global markets. Trump indicated that the agreements reached in Beijing could expand bilateral commerce and create new opportunities for businesses in both countries.
The two leaders also discussed the escalating tensions surrounding Iran. Trump said Washington and Beijing share a common goal of preventing Iran from acquiring nuclear weapons and emphasized the importance of keeping the Strait of Hormuz open to ensure the uninterrupted flow of global energy supplies.
Trump also announced that Xi Jinping will make a reciprocal visit to the United States on September 24. “President Xi will be visiting on September 24th,” Trump said, adding that he expects the Chinese leader to leave “very impressed,” just as he said he was by China during his current visit. The planned trip is expected to further strengthen diplomatic and economic engagement between the two nations.
