Fuel prices across India have gone up once again, delivering another blow to consumers already struggling with rising living costs. On May 25, Oil Marketing Companies increased petrol prices by ₹2.61 per litre and diesel by ₹2.71 per litre, marking the fourth fuel hike in less than two weeks.
With repeated revisions over recent days, petrol and diesel prices have now risen by nearly ₹7.5 per litre in total. The continuous hikes have pushed fuel rates in major cities to some of the highest levels seen in recent months.
The increase comes as global crude oil prices continue to surge amid tensions in West Asia and uncertainty in international energy markets. Indian fuel retailers are also facing pressure from higher import costs and refining expenses.
Experts warn that rising fuel prices could trigger another wave of inflation by increasing transportation charges, food prices, and daily household expenses. Businesses dependent on logistics and transport are also expected to feel the impact.
Commuters and middle-class families have expressed frustration over the repeated increases, with many fearing that more hikes could follow if global crude prices remain unstable.
