Indian households have been dealt another blow as the price of domestic LPG cylinders has been increased by ₹29 with effect from June 7. The latest hike pushes the cost of a 14.2 kg cooking gas cylinder in Delhi from ₹913 to ₹942, adding to the financial burden on millions of families already struggling with rising living expenses
Under the revised rates, consumers will now pay ₹968 in Kolkata, ₹941.50 in Mumbai, and ₹957.50 in Chennai. In Telangana, the price of a domestic LPG cylinder in Hyderabad is expected to climb from around ₹965 to nearly ₹994. In Andhra Pradesh, rates are likely to rise to about ₹966.50 in the Amaravati region and ₹950 in Visakhapatnam, depending on local taxes and transportation changes
The latest increase comes just months after a ₹60 hike since March, raising fresh questions about the affordability of essential cooking fuel. Consumer groups argue that repeated price revisions are squeezing middle-class and lower-income families, forcing many households to reassess monthly budgets.
Industry sources claim mounting financial pressure on state-run oil marketing companies is behind the latest revision. However, critics say ordinary citizens are once again being made to bear the cost, with cooking gas increasingly becoming a major household expense rather than a basic necessity.
