Tomblaine, France, June 28:
Eleven people lost their lives after a small aircraft carrying skydivers crashed shortly after takeoff near Tomblaine in northeastern France on Sunday.
The aircraft, operated by a local skydiving club, went down moments after departing from the Nancy-Essey airfield. All 11 people on board, including the pilot, skydiving instructors and participants, were killed in the crash.
Witnesses said the plane appeared to lose control before plunging to the ground near a residential area. No injuries were reported among people on the ground.
Emergency responders rushed to the crash site, secured the area and began recovery operations. Authorities have launched an investigation to determine the cause of the accident, with aviation experts examining the wreckage and flight records.
Officials have also arranged support for the families of the victims as the investigation continues.
