Washington, D.C., July 2: U.S. President Donald Trump has once again criticized NATO member countries for what he described as inadequate defense spending, arguing that the United States continues to shoulder a disproportionate share of the alliance's costs.
Speaking on the issue, Trump called the current spending imbalance "ridiculous," saying the U.S. contributes far more than any other NATO member while receiving little in return. "The United States spends more money on NATO than any other country, by far, to protect them, without getting any benefit from doing so," Trump said.
The remarks reinforce Trump's long-standing demand that NATO allies increase their defense budgets and meet agreed spending commitments. During both his previous presidency and current term, he has repeatedly argued that European allies should contribute more to their own security instead of relying heavily on U.S. military and financial support.
Trump's comments come as NATO members continue discussions on strengthening collective defense amid ongoing global security challenges, with pressure mounting on alliance members to boost military readiness and defense investments.
