Delhi Govt Eases Action Against Most CJP Protesters, Criminal Cases to Continue for Some

Delhi government has decided not to pursue further legal action against most CJP protesters, while those with criminal records or serious charges will still face legal proceedings.

Breaking News

New Delhi: The Delhi government has decided not to pursue further legal action against the majority of people who took part in the CJP-led "Chalo Sansad" protest on July 20. The decision provides relief to many demonstrators who do not have a criminal background.

Officials said the exemption will not apply to individuals with previous criminal records or those facing serious allegations. Legal proceedings against such persons will continue in accordance with the law.

The move is seen as an effort to separate peaceful protesters from those accused of criminal offences. It follows widespread debate over the handling of the protest and demands from various groups for leniency toward participants.

While many protesters are expected to benefit from the decision, authorities have made it clear that cases involving violence, repeat offenders, or individuals with criminal antecedents will not be withdrawn.
