Iran, Oman Discuss Hormuz Transit Fee Proposal; Global Trade Watches Closely

Iran and Oman are discussing a proposal to impose up to 7% transit fees on cargo ships using the Strait of Hormuz, raising concerns over global trade costs.

Breaking News

Tehran/Muscat: Iran and Oman are reportedly discussing a proposal to introduce transit charges of up to 7% on commercial cargo vessels passing through the Strait of Hormuz, one of the world's most important maritime trade routes.

The proposal is still under discussion, and no final decision has been announced. If implemented, the move could increase

shipping costs for international cargo operators and potentially affect global supply chains, particularly oil and liquefied natural gas (LNG) shipments that pass through the strategic waterway. Shipping and energy analysts say any additional transit fee could lead to higher freight and insurance costs, with importers and exporters worldwide closely monitoring developments.

Authorities from both countries have not confirmed a final agreement, and negotiations are continuing. Until an official decision is made, the proposal remains under consideration.
