New Delhi: Seventeen people were injured after an Air India flight traveling from Phuket to Delhi encountered severe turbulence, causing a sudden loss of altitude and moments of panic inside the aircraft.
According to officials, passengers and cabin crew suffered injuries after the aircraft was jolted by intense turbulence during the flight. The pilots safely landed the aircraft at Delhi, where medical teams provided immediate assistance to those injured.
Air India said it is extending support to all affected passengers and crew members. Most injuries were reported to be minor, while a few required further medical attention.
India's aviation regulator has ordered an investigation into the incident. Authorities will examine flight data and cockpit records to determine the circumstances that led to the sudden altitude drop and assess whether additional safety measures are needed.
The incident serves as a reminder of the risks posed by unexpected turbulence and the importance of wearing seat belts throughout a flight, even when the seat belt sign is switched off.
