In a major legal development, the Supreme Court has halted further proceedings in the Allahabad High Court concerning a plea seeking a CBI/ED probe against Congress leader Rahul Gandhi. The apex court’s intervention has put the brakes on the proceedings, creating a significant setback for those pushing for an immediate probe.
In another crucial direction, the Supreme Court restrained the CBI and Enforcement Directorate (ED) from submitting any report to the Allahabad High Court in connection with the matter. The order effectively prevents the investigative agencies from taking the High Court proceedings forward through fresh reports while the Supreme Court examines the legal challenge.
The case has been politically sensitive, with allegations being raised against Rahul Gandhi and demands for an investigation by central agencies. However, the Supreme Court’s latest intervention does not amount to a final ruling on the allegations. Instead, the apex court has temporarily stopped the High Court proceedings and restricted the submission of agency reports.
The development is being seen as a major legal breather for Rahul Gandhi, while the battle over the alleged assets and proposed CBI-ED probe now shifts to the Supreme Court. The apex court’s next proceedings could determine whether the High Court case and the demand for a central-agency probe will move forward or face further legal hurdles.
