Electric vehicle demand accelerates, but industry remains below annual zero-emission sales target
LONDON, July 4:
The UK new car market posted strong growth in June, with registrations rising 15% compared with the same month last year, reflecting continued consumer demand and a sharp increase in electric vehicle sales.
Battery electric vehicles (BEVs) accounted for nearly 30% of all new car registrations during the month, marking one of the strongest performances for EVs in the UK market. Demand was supported by a wider choice of models and growing interest in zero-emission vehicles.
Several automakers recorded higher sales during the month, with electric vehicle manufacturers continuing to expand their presence in the market. The growth highlights the UK's ongoing transition toward cleaner transportation.
Despite the strong monthly performance, electric vehicles remain below the government's annual target for zero-emission vehicle sales, indicating that manufacturers still face challenges in meeting regulatory goals. I
ndustry experts say continued investment in charging infrastructure, competitive pricing and supportive policies will be essential to maintain the momentum in EV adoption throughout the remainder of the year.
