Democratic fundraising platform ActBlue has filed a lawsuit against Texas Attorney General Ken Paxton, accusing him of launching what it describes as an unlawful and politically motivated campaign of investigations and legal pressure targeting the organization.
According to the lawsuit filed on Friday, ActBlue argues that the Texas Attorney General’s office has repeatedly attempted to initiate inquiries and enforcement actions without sufficient legal basis, alleging that these moves are part of a broader “retribution campaign” against Democratic-aligned fundraising networks.
The organization, widely used for small-dollar political donations in the United States, claims the investigations are designed to intimidate donors and disrupt its operations ahead of upcoming election cycles. ActBlue maintains that its platform complies fully with federal and state campaign finance laws.
Ken Paxton’s office has previously defended its scrutiny of political fundraising entities, stating that such actions are intended to ensure transparency and prevent potential violations of election finance regulations. The lawsuit sets the stage for a high-stakes legal clash between one of the Democratic Party’s key fundraising infrastructures and a prominent Republican state official.
The case is expected to draw national attention as it raises broader questions about political oversight, donor privacy, and the limits of state authority in regulating nationwide fundraising platforms.
