Seoul/Tehran: Iran’s embassy in South Korea has dismissed reports linking Iranian armed forces to the damage caused to a South Korean-operated cargo vessel in the Strait of Hormuz, calling the accusations “baseless and politically motivated.”
The controversy erupted after a commercial vessel operating near the busy Gulf shipping corridor suffered a major onboard explosion and fire, triggering fresh concerns over maritime security in one of the world’s most sensitive trade routes. Crew members were evacuated safely as emergency teams battled the blaze.
Iranian officials insisted that Tehran had no role in the incident and accused rival nations of attempting to fuel tensions in the region at a time when military activity around the Strait of Hormuz has sharply intensified.
The denial also follows statements from US leadership alleging Iranian involvement in attacks targeting international shipping. The latest incident has once again pushed the Strait of Hormuz into global focus, with fears growing over disruptions to oil transport and commercial cargo movement.
Security analysts warn that continued confrontation between Iran and Western allies could further destabilize the Gulf region, impacting global energy markets and increasing risks for international vessels passing through the strategic waterway.
