The United States has reportedly laid down five major conditions for any future agreement with Iran, signaling Washington’s tough stance ahead of possible renewed negotiations over Tehran’s nuclear program.
According to emerging details, the central U.S. demand is that Iran be allowed to operate only one nuclear facility under strict international oversight.
Washington is also insisting that Iran transfer its stockpile of approximately 400 kilograms of enriched uranium to the United States as part of confidence-building measures
. In another significant condition, the U.S. has reportedly refused to release at least 25 percent of Iran’s frozen overseas assets. Washington is also unwilling to discuss compensation for losses Iran claims to have suffered due to sanctions and regional military confrontations.
The proposed terms underscore the Biden administration’s strategy of limiting Iran’s nuclear capabilities while maintaining economic pressure until Tehran agrees to substantial restrictions and transparency measures.
Iran, however, is pushing back with its own set of demands. Tehran wants an immediate end to regional hostilities, the lifting of U.S. sanctions, access to its frozen funds, and compensation for economic and military damages.
Iran has also sought formal recognition of its strategic influence over the Strait of Hormuz, one of the world’s most critical oil shipping routes. The sharp differences between both sides suggest that any future agreement will face significant diplomatic hurdles.
