ISLAMABAD, May 26,2026
Pakistan has firmly shut the door on any immediate move to join the Abraham Accords, rejecting recent calls linked to former U.S. President Donald Trump urging broader regional participation in Israel normalisation efforts.
Defence Minister Khawaja Muhammad Asif made Pakistan’s position unmistakably clear, stating that such agreements run contrary to the country’s foundational ideological stance and cannot be considered under current circumstances.
Asif also questioned the credibility of establishing ties with Israel, reiterating that Pakistan does not recognise Israel and continues to support a settlement aligned with Palestinian aspirations.
His remarks came shortly after Trump reportedly encouraged countries including Saudi Arabia, Qatar, and Pakistan to consider joining expanded Abraham Accords frameworks amid shifting Middle East diplomatic dynamics.
Islamabad stressed that any future engagement would depend entirely on a “just and lasting solution” to the Palestinian issue, effectively linking normalisation to long-standing political demands.
The statement underscores Pakistan’s continued resistance to diplomatic pressure on Israel relations, reinforcing its traditional foreign policy position despite renewed U.S.-backed regional outreach.
