Washington, D.C.: A federal court ruling has halted a proposed renovation project at the Kennedy Center and ordered the removal of references associated with the "Trump Kennedy Center" name.
According to the ruling issued by Judge Christopher Cooper, the administration has been given 14 days to remove branding linked to former President Donald Trump from the institution. The court also blocked a planned two-year renovation project valued at approximately $257 million, which was expected to begin in July 2026 and would have required the temporary closure of the facility.
Reacting to the decision, Trump criticized the ruling on Truth Social, arguing that the Kennedy Center faces serious infrastructure issues, including deteriorating structural elements and safety concerns. He maintained that renovation efforts were necessary to address the condition of the building.
Trump also indicated that he may step away from plans to reshape the institution, stating that he has little interest in continuing involvement unless granted full authority over rebuilding and management decisions.
The ruling marks a significant development in the ongoing debate over the future of the Kennedy Center and its proposed redevelopment plans.
