Seoul | May 31
South Korea and Japan have held talks on a potential military-logistics support agreement that could enhance cooperation between their armed forces during emergencies and joint operations
. The discussions took place during a meeting of senior defence officials on the sidelines of a regional security forum in Singapore. The proposed arrangement would allow both countries to provide logistical assistance to each other, including supplies, transportation and operational support when required.
South Korean officials said the matter remains under review and would require careful consideration due to its political sensitivity. Historical issues between the two countries continue to influence public opinion regarding closer military ties.
Despite these challenges, Seoul and Tokyo have been working to strengthen security cooperation in response to evolving regional threats. Officials from both nations also agreed to expand practical defence collaboration, including maritime search-and-rescue activities.
No formal agreement has been finalised, but the talks reflect ongoing efforts by South Korea and Japan to build stronger security partnerships while managing longstanding diplomatic concerns.
