Caracas | July 3:
The death toll from the two powerful earthquakes that struck Venezuela on June 24 has climbed to 2,595, according to acting President Delcy Rodriguez, as rescue teams continue searching through debris in the country's worst-hit regions.
The twin earthquakes caused widespread devastation, bringing down homes, damaging public infrastructure, and displacing thousands of residents. Emergency workers remain engaged in search and recovery efforts, while authorities continue assessing the full extent of the destruction.
Officials said thousands of people have been injured, with hospitals and temporary shelters operating under pressure. Relief operations are ongoing, supported by emergency personnel and volunteers working to reach affected communities.
The government said efforts are focused on providing medical care, restoring essential services, and delivering food, water, and temporary shelter to survivors. Authorities cautioned that the casualty figure could rise further as rescue operations continue.
The earthquakes rank among the deadliest natural disasters to hit Venezuela in recent years, leaving large areas struggling to recover from extensive damage.
