Beijing: Typhoon Bavi battered eastern China's Zhejiang province after making landfall with powerful winds and torrential rain, uprooting trees, damaging infrastructure and triggering widespread flooding concerns across the region.
Chinese authorities launched one of the largest evacuation drives in recent years, moving nearly two million residents from vulnerable coastal and low-lying areas to safer locations ahead of the storm's arrival. Emergency teams were deployed as heavy rainfall inundated roads and disrupted transportation services.
Although Typhoon Bavi weakened after moving inland, officials warned that the danger was far from over. Meteorological agencies cautioned that continued rainfall could lead to flash floods, landslides and river overflows in several parts of eastern China.
Local governments remain on high alert, with rescue teams and disaster response units monitoring affected areas as authorities work to restore normalcy and minimize further damage from the storm.
