DMK Has No Vision for Women Empowerment, Says Modi; Slams Party’s Track Record

PM Narendra Modi criticizes DMK, alleging the party lacks vision for women empowerment and has an anti-women mindset, as political tensions rise ahead of key elections.

India

Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Wednesday strongly criticized the Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (DMK), alleging that the party lacks a clear vision for women’s empowerment and has historically displayed an “anti-women mindset.” Addressing a public gathering, Modi said the DMK’s track record does not reflect genuine efforts to uplift women in society. He claimed that the party’s policies and political approach have repeatedly failed to prioritize the welfare, safety, and economic empowerment of women. The Prime Minister contrasted this with the initiatives undertaken by the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP)-led government at the Centre. According to Modi, several schemes introduced in recent years have focused on improving women’s financial independence, health, and education. He emphasized that empowering women remains a key pillar of the government’s development agenda, adding that meaningful progress in the country cannot be achieved without ensuring equal opportunities and safety for women. The remarks come amid intensifying political exchanges between the BJP and the DMK ahead of upcoming electoral battles in southern states, particularly in Tamil Nadu, where women voters are expected to play a crucial role.
