Incoming Call Ban After Recharge Expiry Leaves Millions Struggling

Concerns grow over telecom companies blocking incoming calls immediately after recharge validity expires, with critics saying the move is causing difficulties for common people

India

New Delhi March 11 Concerns have been raised over telecom companies blocking incoming calls immediately after the expiry of recharge validity. Critics expressed strong anger over the practice, stating that not only outgoing calls but even incoming calls are being stopped once the recharge period ends. They argued that while suspending outgoing calls may be reasonable after validity expires, blocking incoming calls is creating serious difficulties for common people. Many users, especially those from low-income groups, depend on their mobile numbers for essential communication. In today’s digital era, mobile numbers have become crucial for banking transactions, OTP verification, and receiving information related to government services. If incoming calls are blocked, people may miss important alerts and verification messages. It was also pointed out that poor people and unemployed individuals who cannot recharge frequently are the worst affected by this policy. There are growing demands for telecom regulators to intervene and ensure that incoming calls remain active for a certain grace period even after recharge validity expires.
