Congress Women Stage Protest Outside PM Residence Over Women’s Reservation Demand

New Delhi:  April 29,2026

Women leaders of the opposition Congress party staged a protest outside the residence of Prime Minister Narendra Modi in New Delhi on Sunday, demanding the immediate implementation of the long-pending Women’s Reservation Bill

. The protest was led by members of the Indian National Congress women’s wing, who raised slogans accusing the central government of delaying action on a constitutional promise aimed at ensuring greater representation of women in Parliament and state assemblies.

Demonstrators alleged that despite repeated announcements and political assurances, the bill has not been effectively implemented, calling it a “betrayal of women’s political empowerment.” The protesters also demanded a clear timeline for enforcement and implementation mechanisms.

Security was tightened in the area as police personnel were deployed to manage the situation and prevent escalation. Officials stated that the protest remained largely peaceful, though traffic movement in nearby stretches was briefly affected.

Opposition leaders further intensified criticism of the government, claiming that the issue is being used politically without concrete action. The ruling side has not yet issued an official response to the latest protest.
