Chhatarpur/Bhopal, May 7:
An unusual interfaith marriage in Madhya Pradesh has triggered widespread discussion after a Muslim woman jail officer married a former Hindu life convict in a traditional Hindu ceremony, with Bajrang Dal members reportedly performing the ‘kanyadaan’.
According to local reports, the woman officer had earlier worked at Satna Central Jail, where she came in contact with the man during his prison term. The former inmate had served a long sentence in a murder case before being released several years ago for good conduct.
Their friendship gradually turned into a relationship, and the couple decided to get married despite religious and social differences. The wedding was held in Chhatarpur district following Hindu rituals and Vedic chants.
As members of the bride’s family were reportedly absent from the ceremony, local Bajrang Dal and VHP activists stepped in to perform traditional wedding responsibilities, including the symbolic ‘kanyadaan’, drawing major attention on social media.
The marriage has sparked mixed reactions online. While some hailed the couple for crossing religious barriers in the name of love, others turned the event into a political and ideological debate.
