Rahul Gandhi Warns of Fuel Price Hike After Polls, Accuses Centre of Burdening Common People

Rahul Gandhi warns that petrol and diesel prices may increase after elections and accuses the Centre of shifting the burden of rising crude oil prices onto common people.

India

New Delhi, May 15: Congress leader Rahul Gandhi on Thursday alleged that the central government could raise petrol, diesel and cooking gas prices after elections, saying the burden of rising global crude oil costs is being shifted onto ordinary citizens.

In a sharp criticism of the Narendra Modi-led government, Rahul Gandhi said the Centre had earlier retained the benefits when international crude oil prices were lower but is now preparing to pass increased costs directly to consumers. He claimed that the move would worsen inflation and put additional strain on household budgets.

The Congress leader argued that any hike in fuel prices would have a ripple effect across the economy, pushing up transportation costs and increasing the prices of essential commodities, including food items and daily necessities.

Rahul Gandhi also pointed to the recent increase in commercial LPG cylinder prices as a sign that further revisions in petrol and diesel rates may be on the way. He said rising fuel and energy costs would hit middle-class and lower-income families the hardest.

The Union government has not made any official announcement regarding a fuel price hike. However, Rahul Gandhi’s remarks have intensified the political debate over inflation, fuel taxation and the impact of global oil market fluctuations on Indian consumers
