SP–BSP Slam UP Government as Severe Heatwave Triggers Power Supply Stress Across State

Opposition SP and BSP criticise UP government as intense heatwave pushes electricity demand to peak levels, causing outages, voltage issues and public inconvenience.

India

Lucknow: A severe heatwave sweeping across Uttar Pradesh has intensified political tensions, with the Samajwadi Party (SP) and Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP) launching strong criticism against the state government over reported pressure on the power supply system.

As temperatures continue to rise sharply, electricity consumption has surged across urban and rural areas. Several regions have reported fluctuations in voltage and intermittent power interruptions, particularly during peak evening hours when cooling demand is highest.

Opposition parties have accused the state administration of failing to strengthen power infrastructure ahead of the summer season. SP leaders claimed that repeated disruptions are affecting households, farmers, and small businesses, especially in districts already facing extreme heat conditions.

BSP representatives also raised concerns over what they described as inadequate planning, stating that the current situation reflects gaps in distribution management and demand forecasting during peak summer months.

On the other hand, officials maintain that the power system is operating under unprecedented seasonal demand due to extreme temperatures. They said efforts are underway to balance supply through additional procurement and grid management measures

. Despite official assurances, reports from several districts indicate continued strain on supply, with residents experiencing scheduled and unscheduled outages during high-demand hours.

With the heatwave expected to persist, the issue of electricity availability has once again become a major political and public concern across Uttar Pradesh.
