A political storm has erupted in West Bengal after an attack on Trinamool Congress national general secretary Abhishek Banerjee during his visit to South 24 Parganas. The incident has drawn sharp reactions from party leaders, with Rajya Sabha MP Sagarika Ghose condemning the violence and raising questions over the role of law enforcement

. In a post on social media platform X, Ghose described the attack as “horrifying” and asked where the police were when Banerjee came under attack.

She alleged that the incident reflected a growing atmosphere of fear, violence and lawlessness in the state and accused the Bharatiya Janata Party of encouraging such conditions.
