Authorities in West Bengal have stepped up efforts to identify and detain individuals suspected of residing in the state without valid legal documents. As part of the ongoing operation, several suspected Bangladeshi nationals have been shifted to a holding centre in Cooch Behar district for further verification.
Officials said the detainees were transferred after local agencies completed preliminary checks on their identities and citizenship status. The holding centre will serve as a temporary facility while authorities examine documents and coordinate with relevant agencies.
The latest move is part of a broader campaign aimed at strengthening border security and addressing concerns over illegal migration in border districts. Security personnel have reportedly increased surveillance and document verification drives in sensitive areas.
Authorities maintain that all cases will be processed according to legal procedures. Further action, including possible deportation, will depend on the outcome of citizenship verification and coordination between concerned government agencies.
