Rahul Gandhi Escalates Gaza Attack, Says India Losing Moral Voice Under Modi Govt
New Delhi | June 30:
Congress leader Rahul Gandhi has sharpened the party's attack on the Centre over India's stance on the Gaza conflict, backing Sonia Gandhi and accusing the Modi government of abandoning the country's independent foreign policy.
In a strongly worded social media post, Rahul Gandhi said India must "speak up with moral clarity" and reclaim its long-standing tradition of strategic autonomy. He alleged that India was "slipping further into Israel's strategic orbit" even as several countries were reassessing their positions on the ongoing conflict in Gaza.
Rahul endorsed Sonia Gandhi's recent appeal for New Delhi to adopt a more independent diplomatic approach rooted in humanitarian values, arguing that India's global credibility has historically rested on its ability to take balanced and principled positions on international crises
The remarks come days after Sonia Gandhi criticised the Centre's handling of the Gaza issue, questioning what she described as a departure from India's traditional foreign policy principles.
The ruling BJP hit back sharply, dismissing the Congress allegations as politically motivated. Party leaders accused the opposition of attempting to politicise foreign policy and indulging in "vote bank politics" over a sensitive international issue.
The exchange has triggered a fresh political battle over India's diplomatic approach to the Israel-Gaza conflict, with the Congress pressing for a stronger humanitarian position while the BJP defends the government's foreign policy as balanced and guided by national interest.
