Monsoon Fury Across India: Over 60 Dead as Floods, Landslides and Waterlogging Trigger Nationwide Crisis

India faces severe monsoon devastation with over 60 deaths reported in Maharashtra and Surat. Floods, landslides and waterlogging disrupt life as Uttarakhand remains on high alert.

India

New Delhi: The southwest monsoon continues to batter large parts of India, triggering floods, landslides and widespread disruption across several states. With rivers swelling and roads submerged, authorities are racing to rescue stranded residents and restore essential services.

Maharashtra remains among the worst-affected states, where continuous downpours have resulted in dozens of rain-related fatalities. Flooded streets, collapsed structures and landslides have severely impacted normal life in several districts, forcing local administrations to launch emergency operations.

In Gujarat, Surat has witnessed one of the heaviest spells of rainfall this season. Several residential areas and commercial zones remain waterlogged, while rescue teams continue evacuations in low-lying regions affected by rising water levels.

The impact of the monsoon is being felt across northern and western India. In the hill state of Uttarakhand, authorities have intensified monitoring of landslide-prone zones as heavy rainfall continues to pose risks to residents and travelers. Pilgrimage routes and mountain roads are under close watch amid fears of further disruptions.

Major cities in different parts of the country are also struggling with traffic congestion, waterlogging and interruptions to public transport services. Disaster response teams and local administrations have been placed on alert to respond to emergencies swiftly.

Weather officials have warned that active monsoon conditions are likely to persist over several regions in the coming days, with heavy to very heavy rainfall expected in vulnerable areas. Citizens living near rivers, hilly terrain and low-lying localities have been advised to remain cautious and follow official advisories.

The ongoing weather crisis once again highlights the growing challenge of managing extreme rainfall events and strengthening urban infrastructure against climate-related disasters.
